Google’s Latest Project Ara Modular Smartphone Getting Close To Reality

Google Project Ara
Google Project Ara

Google's latest Project Ara smartphones are getting very close to reality, Project Ara has been entered in phase 2 and will hit few markets of the world in this year. With this Google's concept anyone will be able to get a smartphone of their own specifications choice in few moments like if you want a smartphone with 3G, 8MP camera, 1080 pixels resolution display etc, means write any specifications that are in your mind and get that smartphone from Google, this sounds awesome, Right?

Starting from $50 main board case you can assemble any parts of your choice and if you want an upgrade in your camera you only have to change your camera not whole smartphone. Means you will be able to upgrade anything like camera, display, antenna (2G, 3G, 4G, LTE), CPU, GPU. This is the main concept behind Project Ara that if you want an upgrade in anything then change that part not your whole smartphone. The main advantage of Project Ara will be money saving, despite of changing smartphone it will be cheap to change single part.

Pakistan Selling Unlocked iPhones

We know that at least three Pakistani mobile phone companies will be putting iPhone 6 and 6 plus on sale for their customers from December 11th, 2014, the news is that these iPhones will be unlocked and not tied to any specific network.
Since there’s no subsidy offered for the iPhones, or in lay-man’s language iPhone 6 and 6 plus will come without any contract, these smartphones are going to be unlocked and would be able to run on any network.
Mobile phone companies, however, may offer incentives to those who will stick to their network. Such incentives might include free 3G data plus voice and SMS bundles for certain duration.
Not to mention, mobile phone companies will also offer warranties (through distributor) and other after-sale services for iPhone purchasers.
It maybe recalled that Ufone has started pre-registration for iPhone and iPhone 6, while Mobilink and Telenor has announced that it will start taking pre-orders from customers from December 5th, 2014. Shipping will start from December 11th, 2014.

HerCareer: Professional Career Community for Women

HerCareer: Professional Career Community for Women
HerCareer: Professional Career Community for Women
HerCareer.pk is an online career community specifically for women. Started in 2013, it specializes in connecting Pakistani women to opportunities of work. The project was idealized by Abdul Moiz Khatri, who noticed talented women around him struggling to find work due to the limitations posed by their gender.

With 29,000 registered women & more than 245,000 visits per month, HerCareer is one of the largest communities of its category in Pakistan. They are associated with the US-Pakistan Women’s Council and boast an impressive list of companies and partners that includes Nestle, Telenor, British Council, Eton and others.

To ensure a high quality experience for candidates and employers, HerCareer uses an invitation model. All profiles are screened by hand and a fair amount of work is done to provide a place where women can feel comfortable in sharing their details and info. The career portal is managed entirely by ladies. That includes staff, content and program managers and other posts.

HerCareer also includes a robust mentor-ship program through which women can work with proven leaders in their field to develop their corporate self.  Ladies from conservative backgrounds can also choose only to work with ladies mentors, so care has been taken to address region specific issues.

One of the great things about the venture is its focus on women from less privileged areas and backgrounds. One of the foremost widespread skills listed on the site is handmade crochet and embroidery and HerCareer plans to open an online shopping portal to sell products made by its members.

We have to applaud HerCareer for their initiative. Ladies in Pakistan traditionally face a lot of issues when it comes to the transition between academia and professional. By providing onsite and work from home opportunities from the top companies in Pakistan and options like a dedicated career recommendation section, they are helping women from all social spheres launch their careers.

WireLurker Becomes First Malware to Target Macs And iOS Devices

Usually it is Android that makes the headlines for security exploits but this time around, it’s iOS. Researchers from Palo Alto have uncovered a bug called Wirelurker which might already have affected hundreds of thousands of devices.
The primary method of infection for this bug is through the Maiyadi App Store which is a third party app store for OSX based in China. At the time of publication, it’s estimated that over 350,000 users might already have been infected. Furthermore, the malicious code was present in over 450 apps on the Maiyadi app store. Pirated versions of some high profile games like Sims 3 and Angry Birds were amongst the infected apps.
Wirelurker exploits the enterprise provisioning system mechanism, which allows big companies to push through new software without the need to go through the fairly laborious app store approval process. So any app that has an enterprise provision certificate can be installed without an issue. This is exploited and what’s concerning is that it affects both jailbroken and non-jailbroken devices.
Once a desktop (all Macbooks and Macs are susceptible) has been infected, Wirelurker can move to any iOS devices connected through a USB cable. Then, it rewrites programs through binary file replacement. Once a non-jailbroken device has been infected, Wirelurker side loads a comic book app onto the device which is not malicious in itself. Researchers suspect this is simply to test whether a device is compromised or not.
The interesting part is that on infected devices, Wirelurker specifically tries to identify the owner of the infected devices. On jailbroken devices, it also tries to access text messages. It also tries to steal payment information and other sensitive data. Some security experts have labeled Wirelurker as primitive but fear that the mechanism used by the bug could be exploited by more sophisticated hackers.
With Wirelurker, iOS users are facing their first widespread significant security threat. Software for testing whether you are affected or not has already been developed that you can download from here. However, the fact remains that Wirelurker is not a passive threat. It is under active development and you should stay safe by not using a third party app stores or charging by plugging into devices you don’t trust.
