HerCareer: Professional Career Community for Women |
HerCareer.pk is an online career community specifically for women. Started in 2013, it specializes in connecting Pakistani women to opportunities of work. The project was idealized by Abdul Moiz Khatri, who noticed talented women around him struggling to find work due to the limitations posed by their gender.
With 29,000 registered women & more than 245,000 visits per month, HerCareer is one of the largest communities of its category in Pakistan. They are associated with the US-Pakistan Women’s Council and boast an impressive list of companies and partners that includes Nestle, Telenor, British Council, Eton and others.
To ensure a high quality experience for candidates and employers, HerCareer uses an invitation model. All profiles are screened by hand and a fair amount of work is done to provide a place where women can feel comfortable in sharing their details and info. The career portal is managed entirely by ladies. That includes staff, content and program managers and other posts.
HerCareer also includes a robust mentor-ship program through which women can work with proven leaders in their field to develop their corporate self. Ladies from conservative backgrounds can also choose only to work with ladies mentors, so care has been taken to address region specific issues.
One of the great things about the venture is its focus on women from less privileged areas and backgrounds. One of the foremost widespread skills listed on the site is handmade crochet and embroidery and HerCareer plans to open an online shopping portal to sell products made by its members.
We have to applaud HerCareer for their initiative. Ladies in Pakistan traditionally face a lot of issues when it comes to the transition between academia and professional. By providing onsite and work from home opportunities from the top companies in Pakistan and options like a dedicated career recommendation section, they are helping women from all social spheres launch their careers.
